Remains of camouflaged gun emplacement above a large bunker complex on the Gotthard Pass. The area belonged to the National Redoubt, the final Swiss line of defence in the high alps, and is checked with the remains of millitray installations, many of them underground, still camouflaged. The modern tunnels running far below are one of Europe's main transport routes, linking Italy to Northern Europe. The pass road is shut for months in winter due to heavy snow, only opening - mainly for tourism - in May.
