The former Furka Blick Hotel dating from 1893, close to the summit of the Furka Pass (2431m) connecting Uri and Valais. Photographed shortly before the road closed for winter, opening only seven months later. Historically this area, around Uri belonged to the National Redoubt, the final Swiss line of defence in the high alps, and is checkered with the remains of millitary installations, many of them underground, or camouflaged.
