Entry to a sports hall at Stadion, providing emergency housing for family groups seeking asylum in Austria, and run by volunteers. SIngle men are housed in a seperate site next door. A sign rwith slogans to encourage the volunteers, reads 'Dear Helpers, (please) stay calm, take care, love yourself & be proud - You're awesome' in English rather than German.

Hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants have transited to Austria on their way to other countries but many are looking for protection in Austria as well.
From January to November over 70,000 persons have lodged an asylum claim in Austria, the majority is from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Although reception capacities were stepped up the rising numbers has put the  Austrian reception system under strain. Many newcomers as well as transiting refugees and migrants are temporarily accommodated in sports- and music halls, former office buildings etc., with those wishing to stay waiting sometimes for weeks to get proper accommodation.
