Nature reclaiming temporary human space, the high Alpine passes of Central Switzerland photographed in the last days before closing for a seven month winter. Damaged Swiss flag flying close to the top of the Susten Pass (2224m) which links the Cantons of Uri and Berne in the High Alps, shortly before it closed for a seven month winter. Despite attempts in previous centuries, the road was only completed in 1946, for use officially for both tourism and the millitary. The area around the St Gottard massive, was part of the National Redoubt, the final Swiss line of defence in the high alps, and is checkered with the remains of millitary installations, many of them underground, still camouflaged.
