Syrian child waiting along with his family in a heated basement after arriving in snowfall from a transit camp at Asfinag on the edge of Salzburg. Along with other refugees and migrants they are in the final wait to cross the border into Germany. The German authorities in Freilassing are accepting refugees and migrants at the rate of roughly 50 per hour, in groups of roughly 10 at a time, and the German police co-ordinate this flow with volunteers on the Austrian side of the border. Up to 300 people wait at this final staging point at any one time, and are already divided off into groups of fifty, seperated by low barriers. For many they are approaching journey's end, and perhaps the start of a new life.
