Passes0001.jpg
The former Furka Blick Hotel dating from 1893, close to the summit of the Furka Pass (2431m) connecting Uri and Valais. For the five months of the year that the pass is open, a cafe is open in the building. Photographed shortly after the road opened after a seven month winter. Historically this area, around Uri belonged to the National Redoubt, the final Swiss line of defence in the high alps, and is checkered with the remains of millitary installations, many of them underground, or camouflaged.
