United Nations Pandemic Victim
Broadcasting into an empty building, a screen displays a tweet form WHO chief Tedros defending his organisation's actions from the beginning of the coronavirus crisis: "We sounded the alarm early and we sounded it often". Abandoned UN offices, empty corridors, locked rooms, the United Nations in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Palais des Nations, the United Nations Office at Geneva, with more than 1,600 staff, normally a focal point for multilateral diplomacy, holding more than 8,000 meetings a year, one of the busiest conference centres in the world, and the biggest duty stations outside of United Nations headquarters in New York, deserted. The palais has been silent since 16th March.
